The Armed Forces of Malta said that it ”proudly congratulates” Staff Sergeant Lisa Micallef, who has become the first Maltese person to earn the Master Technician Award – awarded by FlightSafety International in Wichita, Kansas, in the United States
The AFM said that this elite milestone requires completing an intensive, multi-course curriculum focused on advanced troubleshooting, safety, and operational excellence. ”Staff Sergeant Micallef’s dedication to mastering this specific aircraft directly translates to higher dispatch reliability and the highest safety standards for our fleet.”
The award follows the successful completion of six specialised aviation technical training courses on the King Air B200 series, covering mechanical and avionics systems, advanced troubleshooting and operational maintenance.
The AFM went on say that during her nine years with the Air Wing, Staff Sergeant Micallef has achieved several significant professional milestones, including becoming:
The first female technician in the section to obtain an EASA Mechanical Aircraft Maintenance Licence.
The first female technician in the Air Wing to obtain an EASA Avionics Aircraft Maintenance Licence.
The first member of the Air Wing to hold both EASA Mechanical and Avionics Aircraft Maintenance Licences.
She has also successfully completed an Advanced Diploma in Aviation Maintenance at the University of Malta.
The Armed Forces of Malta concluded by saying that ”her achievements reflect dedication, technical excellence and a strong commitment to professional development, contributing to the continued enhancement of the Air Wing’s capabilities.”
The Nationalist Party has also extended its congratulations to Staff Sergeant Lisa Micallef of the Armed Forces of Malta’s Air Wing.
In a joint statement, Ivan Castillo Shadow Minister for Sustainable Mobility, John Baptist Camilleri Spokesperson for Aviation and Conrad Borg Manche Shadow Minister for Home Affairs and Security, said that this recognition, achieved following intensive and specialised training in the maintenance, avionics, safety and operation of King Air B200 aircraft, is further testament to the skills, professionalism and talent of Maltese workers in the aviation sector.
The Shadow Ministers said that ”Lisa Micallef’s success should fill us with pride, but it should also encourage us to look ahead. Malta has people who are capable of competing and earning recognition at the highest international levels. What they need are more opportunities, more specialised training and greater investment to enable them to advance their careers here in Malta.”
”The PN has always believed in aviation’s potential as an important economic sector for our country,” they said. ”It was the Nationalist Party that spearheaded the development of this sector as a new pillar of the Maltese economy. Today, it is essential that we do not simply rest on what has already been achieved, but continue to build upon it.”
The Shadow Ministers insisted that Malta must continue investing in further training and specialisation opportunities, stronger links between education and industry, and an environment that attracts new investment and creates high-quality, value-added careers for Maltese and Gozitan workers.
”In a global and competitive sector such as aviation, Malta’s greatest resource remains the capabilities of its people. Lisa Micallef’s achievement is concrete proof of what Maltese people can accomplish when they are given the opportunity to broaden their horizons across different fields,” the PN concluded.
