The Shadow Minister for Gozo Frank Anthony Tabone has commended all the Police working in Gozo.

He said that ”despite the shortcomings and limited resources they have at their disposal, these officers continue to serve our community with dedication, professionalism and a great sense of duty. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

The Shadow Minister also noted that Minister for Home Affairs and Security Glenn Bedingfield, has been in Gozo, where he visited the Victoria Police Station and the Community Policing in Marsalforn.

However Tabone stated that the ”question remains for Minister Bedingfield, what did you really see?”

Have you seen the closed Police Stations?

Have you seen the cars that the Police are using in Gozo, vehicles that have not been used in Malta for years, but which seem to be still good for Gozo?

Have you seen that the Traffic Police motorbikes that are no longer considered adequate in Malta are still being used in Gozo?

Have you seen that the RIU in Gozo have not yet been given the same equipment and conditions as their colleagues in Malta, not even uniforms of the same standard?

Have you seen the lack of a specialised presence against organised crime and major crimes?

Have you seen that Gozo still lacks a specialised anti-drug squad?

Have you seen the lack of resources for officers dealing with cases of domestic violence?

Have you seen the lack of adequate services and support for victims of crime in Gozo?

Have you seen the lack of a Road Policing Unit in Gozo, unlike what is there in Malta?

”And the list goes on,” said Shadow Minister Tabone. He insisted that, ”Gozo has the right to the same level of security, resources, equipment and protection that is given to Malta.”

Therefore, the MP said to the Minister, ”I hope that this visit was not simply a courtesy visit and photos – I hope you saw the reality.”
