A new edition of ‘Fil-Gnien man-Nanna’ recipe book celebrates seasonal cooking and community spirit.

This second edition of the popular recipe book ‘Fil-Gnien man-Nanna’ has just been released, continuing an initiative that brings together education, healthcare, environmental awareness and community engagement in Gozo.

Following the positive feedback of the first edition, the new recipe book includes recipes inspired by the spring and summer harvest.

The publication is the result of a successful collaboration between Gozo General Hospital, GLOBE Malta, Nature Trust-FEE Malta and the Eco-Schools Committee at Gozo College Agius de Soldanis Middle School.

Featuring a variety of simple and nutritious dishes, the book draws inspiration from fresh produce grown at the Sow, Grow, Unite Community Garden, situated near St Anne Residence within the grounds of Gozo General Hospital.

The initiative highlights the collaborative efforts of students, teachers, parents, hospital employees, and volunteers, all of whom contribute towards encouraging sustainable lifestyles and a stronger appreciation of locally grown food.

Adding a personal touch to the publication is a series of photographs showcasing fruits, vegetables and herbs cultivated in the community garden.

The photos were taken by Ramona Mercieca, Project Manager of the Sow, Grow, Unite Community Garden and coordinator of the GLOBE program. These photographs document the garden’s progress while illustrating the dedication behind the project.

The GLOBE Malta said that the second edition was made possible through the continued support of Gozo General Hospital, which once again provided funding for the publication. Special recognition to the hospital’s CEO, Carmen Ogilvie-Galea, whose ongoing backing has played a key role in the development of the initiative.

It was explained that beyond being a collection of recipes, ‘Fil-Gnien man-Nanna’ aims to inspire families to embrace fresh, seasonal ingredients, adopt environmentally responsible habits and strengthen connections between generations.

Copies are available in both English and Maltese and can be obtained from the Head Office of the Gozo General Hospital, or by contacting ramona.mercieca@ilearn.edu.mt

GLOBE Malta said that ”the project serves as a practical example of how cooperation between schools, institutions and community organisations can create lasting benefits for both people and the environment.”
