Children across the Maltese Islands start heading back to school this week for the first day of the new term.

The Police Cyber Crime Unit has said that back-to-school photos are a special memory, but before sharing them online, take a moment to check what information is visible.

It warned that a photo can unintentionally reveal:

Your child’s location, their school or uniform, routines and daily schedules, identifying details, all this is information that can become part of their permanent digital footprint.

The Unit said that ”once an image is shared online, you may lose control over where it goes, who saves it, or how it is used.”

It advised that ‘before posting: STOP. CHECK. THINK – Protect the memory. Protect their privacy.”
