Over the weekend the Malta Cricket Association Summer league continued. On Saturday the division 1 game was played between Melita C.C and Krishna C.C.

The Melita team batted first and put in a great batting performance which bettered their score which they had made against the Marsa team. Joy Ghoseroy and Tim Wheeler opened the batting. Wheeler was unfortunately run out without facing a ball and understandably not very happy with his partner. Ghoseroy made up for it by eventually retiring with thirty one runs from thirty balls faced. He scored three fours along the way. It was an unusual innings for him taking five balls to get of the mark.

Tony Slater had his first hit in the league and made fifteen runs from seventeen balls including two fours. Bikram Arora smashed twenty nine runs from twenty balls including three fours and a six. Greg Symons also had his first hit and managed three runs before being bowled. The next two batsmen Derek Ali and Andy Naudi put on a show, between them they faced thirty nine balls and only five balls had no runs made from them. Ali was the main destroyer scoring forty two runs from twenty one balls including six fours and a six. Naudi scored thirty four runs from eighteen balls including four fours. The Melita side was aided with twenty two extras which brought their total to 176 runs from their allotted overs. For Krishna Stefan Cuschieri, Adam Krishna and Andy Lenard were the only wicket takers taking a wicket each.

In reply the Krishna team tried to go for the run rate and big shots which led to their demise. Extras was the top score with twenty seven followed by Andy Lenard with fourteen runs not out and Robert Scerri with ten runs. The Krishna side only managed to score 70 runs. For Melita Tom Reid was the main wicket taker with four including a hat trick. Gordon Hewitt and Ian Pendelbury both took two wickets each and junior Daniel Galea bowling in his first game took a wicket. The Melita team earned eleven points from the game which sent them to the top of the ladder with twenty one points from two games. Marsa are second with seventeen points from three games.

On Sunday a walkover was awarded to Gozo C.C who took eight points, over the RMG CC.

Next Saturday Krishna C.C will play Overseas C.C. 10:30am start.
