In July, the twelve-month moving average rate of inflation stood at 0.9 per cent, whereas the annual rate of inflation stood at 2.5%.

In July, the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices went up to 114.29 from 113.63 in June 2010.

In July 2010, the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices went up by 0.6 per cent over the previous month. This primarily reflected an increase of 4.4 per cent in the Restaurants and Hotels Index, due to costlier accommodation services. Higher airfares caused the Transport Index to go up by 1.5 per cent. The Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels Index went up by 1.0 per cent, mainly on account of higher prices for gas. An upward movement in the price of fruit resulted in a 0.4 per cent rise in the Food and Non-alcoholic beverages Index. Higher fees for the hiring of wedding reception venues caused a similar change in the Recreation and Culture Index.

The Clothing and Footwear Index went down by 9.0 per cent on account of a seasonal drop in the price of garments. Cheaper household textiles and floor coverings caused the Furniture, Household Equipment and Routine Maintenance of the House Index to decrease by 0.6 per cent, a drop recorded also in the Miscellaneous Goods and Services Index. The latter was mainly brought about by lower prices for travel-related accessories. The Alcoholic beverages and Tobacco Index declined by 0.1 per cent. The Communication Index also went down by 0.1 per cent, mainly on account of lower-priced telephony equipment and services.
