Air Malta and Sky Gourmet (Malta) will be assisting the Breast Care Support Group during the month of October which is the breast cancer awareness month.

Air Malta cabin crew will be distributing pink ribbons and collecting donations from passengers to help the Breast Care Support Group in raising awareness and funds. The donations collected will go towards the printing of useful information to encourage women to opt for health food and to practice some form of exercise – two important factors to lower the risk of having breast cancer.

Gertrude Abela on behalf of the Breast Care Support Group Europa Donna thanked the Chairman and Board of Directors, management and employees of Air Malta and Sky Gourmet (Malta) for helping the organisation raise funds for their campaign. “We achieve our aims by holding regular meeting and outings for our members, giving talks on how to do breast self-examination and printing booklets and other material about self-examination and prevention, which we distribute free of charge. Survival rates improve considerably if breast cancer is caught at an early stage. We also offer the service of one-to-one counselling to patients suffering from breast cancer. All this we do entirely on voluntary basis and we rely on the support of the public and public-minded companies such as Air Malta to fund our campaigns,” said Ms. Abela.

The Breast Care Support Group is a non-profit organisation which has been active since 1989. The group’s main aim is to provide practical and moral support to women diagnosed with breast cancer as well as their families.

This campaign also forms part of Air Malta’s Committed to the Community Campaign whereby the airline supports organisations that work hard to add value to the local society. No other airline operating to Malta provides continued support to voluntary and non-governmental organisation like Air Malta.
