A number of young Gozitan students particpated in a programme of activities by the Employment and Training Corporation (ETC), as part of the Youth Employment Programme. This project is financed by the European Social Fund 2007 – 2013 and deals with unemployment among young people, as well as helping to integrate young people into the labour market.

The Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono, met with the students in St George’s Square, Victoria, where the activities were concentrated. The Minister urged them to continue their studies, to enable them to have more opportunities to work. She explained how the majority of Gozitan students are continuing their studies at the University of Malta and other educational institutions around Malta and Gozo.

The Minister then visited the various stands, one of which was organised by the Directorate for Eco-Gozo and Regional Development within the Ministry for Gozo. From here, the young Gozitan students were given information about the strategy of sustainable development in Gozo and general information about ongoing projects and others that are planned in light of the government vision to make a Gozo an ecological island.

Activities at St George’s Square included a stand by the Institute for Tourism Studies in Qala, where students were given information about training opportunities and jobs in the tourism sector. There were also several interactive workshops that dealt with the management of water and waste. Guidance was given to students about careers from the YEP Team, as well as entities that offer work in ICT. WasteServ representatives of the MITA, Gozo Centre of the Arts and Crafts, the Public Library of Gozo and the Gozitan University Students Group were also present. The event was concluded by a concert by the Gozitan group Chasing Pandora.
