Christmas is approaching and so is ‘Carols by Candlelight.’ This Christmas event organised by the Schola Cantorum Jubilate opens the Christmas Season in Malta. ‘Carols by Candlelight,’ is the prelude to many events which during this last month of the year bring a lot of people together…all celebrating love and kindness.

The very first weekend of December, will see the Schola Cantorum Jubilate performing Christmas Carols during their annual event, which is being held on Saturday, the 4th and Sunday, the 5th of December, at St. Augustine’s Monastery in Victoria. The concert, which starts at 7.30pm, will mark the end of a year of celebrations on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the Schola Cantorum.

The concert will present a number of popular, as well as other less well known carols. The setting will be totally different from previous years because Schola Cantorum Jubilate always does its utmost to be creative and innovative to please its audience. This can be proved by the many patrons who attend the event every year.

This year’s repertoire includes pieces mainly by Praetorius, Liebergen, Rutter, Willcocks, and Portelli. Traditional pieces from different countries will be included as well as a traditional Maltese Christmas piece. Vocal solo pieces will be interpreted by Marouska Attard and Albert Buttigieg while Philip Attard and Fabian Cini will play a medley of Classical Christmas Carols on the saxophone and piano respectively. Other instrumental pieces will be interpreted by Organist, Joseph Camilleri and trumpeter Carols Borg.

Following the concert, a gala dinner will take place in the Cloister. The five-course meal will complement the evening, giving space for socialising and sharing the spirit of Christmas.

On entering the Monastery, guests will have the opportunity to admire paintings by the talented and well-known Gozitan artist George Scicluna.

All the proceeds from the evening will be presented to Guzeppa Debono Home of Ghajnsielem, which at this time of the year makes everyone think of the grotto of Bethlehem which offered shelter to the Messiah.

On December the 8th , this Church Home will be celebrating the 25th anniversary since its inception. Over the twenty-five years, a lot of work has been done in favour of life; sometimes even giving voice to the voiceless life inside the womb.

Surely it is an occasion not to be missed. For further inquiries, or for accommodation in the Monastery, please ring on 79450950.

Kindly note that admittance to the concert is by ticket only.
