Administrative records held at the Employment and Training Corporation indicate an increase of 1,885 persons in full-time employment, up by 1.3 per cent over September 2009.

In September, the number of persons working on a full-time basis stood at 147,067, whereas the registered unemployed amounted to 6,655. The labour supply for the period under review registered an increase of 0.7 per cent over September 2009, while registered unemployed declined by 866.

Males employed on a full-time basis were mostly engaged in manufacturing, wholesale and retail trade and construction activities. On the other hand, most of the female working population were engaged in education, wholesale and retail trade and health activities.

Real estate, renting and business activities and community, social and persona service activities were among the activities which registered increases in employmen between September 2009 and September 2010. Increases of 11.1 and 7.2 per cent respectively were recorded for the period under review.

Over the twelve-month period to September 2010, the two economic activities which recorded decreases in employment were construction -3.8 per cent and public administration, -2.3 per cent.

Part-time employment in September last year amounted to 52,136. A total of 22,456 persons held a part-time job in addition to their full-time job, whereas a further 29,680 persons had a part- time job as their main occupation. Between September 2009 and September 2010, part-time employment increased by 6.7 per cent.
