Last week Nature Trust (Malta) as members of Ocean2012, celebrated European Fish Week. This is the second time a week was dedicated to raising awareness on the state of our fisheries.
In Malta Nature Trust, worked on engaging all the MPs by handing out Ocean2012 objectives on the reform of the Common Fisheries Policy. “As a fish loving nation we believe we have a duty to keep our fisheries sustainable. We are not all aware of the problems most of our fish stocks are facing,” NTM said.
This is why Nature Trust together with 4 other NGOs, Greenhouse, Sharklab Malta, Getup Standup and Din l-Art Helwa are campaigning to educate the consumer on the type of fish and how and where it was caught.
NTM went on to say “We want to promote fishers who have little or no impact on the environment, promote eating fish which is more abundant and instill a behaviour of not being afraid to asks questions, that help us make the right decisions.”
Ocean2012 is a coalition of 123 members of organisations all working towards one goal, seeing a Common Fisheries Policy reform that is socially, economically and environmentally sustainable.
