San Lawerenz Council secures more European FundsThe San Lawrenz Mayor, Noel Formosa, was recently in Syracuse to sign a contract for another European project with the aim of increasing diving tourism and tourism in general in Dwejra. In this project the Local Council is a partner, with the province of Syracuse the lead partner. The University of Malta is also a partner in this project and was represented by Dr Alan Deidun who is a biologist and a researcher at the University.

The role of the Local Council in this project is to create an educational centre on the environment of Dwejra Bay and to furnish it with the necessary apparatus and the educational material needed so that divers, tourists and visitors who chose to visit Dwejra will have every assistance and information before diving. The Local Council will also create a marketing strategy so that this area and the other areas that are part of this project will be professionally advertised in Europe.

The other partners in this project are Lampedusa and Palermo. The protected maritime areas that will participate in the project are Majjiesa Cliffs and Dwejra, the Plemmierio reserve in Syracuse, the Ustica reserve, Capo Gallo in Palermo and the maritime reserve in Lampedusa.

This project forms part of the Project Italia Malta 2007-2013.
