The National Statistics Office has said that in May 2011, industrial production decreased by 0.8 per cent from 102.4 points in May last year. During this period, the decline of 3.5 per cent in the production of consumer goods was partly mitigated by increases of 0.4, 3.9 and 1.4 per cent in the production of intermediate goods, energy and capital goods respectively.

At the NACE division level, the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products, manufacture of food products, manufacture of wearing apparel and manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and preparations decreased by 0.8, 5.1, 13.3 and 10.8 per cent respectively. On the other hand, electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply, other manufacturing, manufacture of rubber and plastic products and manufacture of textiles increased by 3.7, 13.6, 7.5 and 13.3 per cent respectively. These NACE divisions partly offset the decline in the overall index.
