MEPA has commenced the public consultation process for the Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) application for the Delimara Power Station extension. The existing power station, operated by Enemalta, is already regulated by an IPPC permit which limits emissions, and imposes monitoring obligations and requirements for appropriate management of the installation. The proposed extension however requires an update to the current IPPC permit.

This IPPC application consists of a proposal for the operation of eight diesel engines and associated activities, such as equipment for the minimisation of emissions, and storage of fuel and waste. It also contains information on air emissions, emissions to the sea, waste management, noise and other environmentally relevant information, together with proposals by the operator on how any impacts identified would be minimised.

During the consultation period, the operator will be organising dedicated meetings with Local Councils and environmental NGOs in the area.
