The Gozo SPCA has said that only the “prompt action by concerned staff at Hotel Ta’ Cenc, Sannat and a speedy response from Gozo SPCA, saved a bitch and her 2 puppies from needless distress and suffering after they were callously dumped in the hotel grounds last Monday evening.”
“They were left in an area frequented by hotel staff, so they were found quite quickly and within minutes a call was made to Gozo SPCA and when Peter Camilleri, the Animal Welfare Officer arrived on the scene hewas taken to where the family had been dumped.”
“Now, after a few days in care, the puppies are thriving, whilst mum is still rather traumatised, but responding well to the loving care being showered on her and the fluffy puppy has already been booked,” the Gozo SPCA said.
The statement said that on the same evening “a delightful 6-month old Dalmatian cross, named Sheila, was brought into the Centre. She was abandoned at the Gozitano Complex, Xewkija three weeks ago and since then a kind resident had been caring for her until a space at Gozo SPCA’s overcrowded Rehoming Centre came up.”
Betty Berry of the Gozo SPCA said, “that these two examples showed how much could be done for animals when businesses, residents and Gozo SPCA work together. She said concern for animal welfare had increased greatly in recent years.”
The Gozo SPCA also expressed the profound gratitude of the Society to the incredibly generous people of Gozo and Malta, which resulted in a record-breaking collection of over €13,000 during their Flag Week, which ended on Wednesday.
