Dame Maria Ellis, of the Dorthese Ellis Foundation, recently presented items of much needed medical equipment to the Gozo General Hospital. The equipment, 6 Codan Argus Syringe Pumps and 4 Progetti Volumetric Pumps, is valued at over 15000.00

Those attending the presentation were Dame Maria Ellis, President of Foundation, the Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono, George Borg, Treasurer of the Foundation, Dr. Anthony Livori, Medical Superintendent and Anne Weightman the secretary of the Foundation.

Anne Weightman gave a brief talk to those present on the work of the foundation and Dr. Livori gratefully accepted the infusion pumps on behalf of the hospital and outlined their many and vital uses.

The Minister for Gozo, praised the valuable work done by NGO foundations such as The Dorthese Ellis and thanked all those whose hard work and contributions had made the purchase of the pumps possible.

A small reception followed with members of the hospital staff. The foundation are now planning their next project and there will be further fund raising events in the near future.

Volumetric pumps fasten to a drip stand and deliver fluids or medication over a period of time. Syringe drivers deliver a dose of medication via a syringe which is attached. These may be used by patients to manage their own pain without the danger of overdosing. Both can be programmed for the respective individual and have alarms fitted for safety.

The Dorthese Ellis Foundation works to support sick patients in their homes and elsewhere and provides much needed equipment for the Gozo General Hospital.
