The ‘Riyadh Second International Contest for Children Drawings 2010’ is an international drawing competition organised by the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Education. In 2010,the competition carried the theme of “My Town…after 50 Years,” and was open to boys and girls aged six to 18 from all the countries with mutual cultural and diplomatic relations with Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.Jonathan Young of Xaghra, was the winner of Category 14-18 years with his poster on peace.
The objectives of the contest were those of:
– Introducing the world’s children to the principles of Islam through putting forth issues of the contest.
– Presenting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Kingdom of Humanity, presenting its values, culture of it people, a country calling for peace, coexistence and development.
– Expose and knowledge of world children cultures, introduce to their orientations and hopes through their participation in the issues of the contest.
– Exchanging experience and international skills in the domain of child art and means of expression.
The Embassy of Malta in Riyadh promoted the drawing contest in Malta and encouraged Maltese schools to participate. The Sliema Lions Club coordinated communications with various schools in Malta and Gozo and thanks to its efforts six Maltese children submitted their drawings, two of whom won gold medals in their category
Winner of Category 10-13 years: Sinead Darmanin of Naxxar – St. Monica School, Gzira
Winner of Category 14-18 years: Jonathan Young of Xaghra Gozo – Seminary, Gozo
The other participants were: Maria Claire Zammit of Mosta – St. Monica School, Gzira
Nicole Sciberras of Mosta – St. Joseph School, Sliema
Jasmine Monique Chircop of Attard – St. Monica School, Gzira
Leonard Schembri of Naxxar – St. Aloysius College
Winners were presented with a Gold Placard, a Certificate and copy of the Exhibition Book.
