Provisional data issued by the National Statistics Office indicate that in September the industrial producer price index increased by 1.8 per cent when compared to the previous month.

This rise was reflected in a 3.2 per cent increase in prices for intermediate goods, and a 0.4 per cent rise within consumer goods. Prices for capital goods and energy remained stable.

Overall, producer prices in the domestic market edged up by 0.1 per cent, in view of a 0.4 per cent rise in the consumer goods sector. Prices for intermediate goods, energy and capital goods remained the same.

During the month, prices for the non-domestic market went up by 2.9 per cent on account of a 3.4 per cent rise in prices for intermediate goods, and a 0.4 per cent increase in consumer goods. No price changes were recorded for capital goods.

Producer prices in respect of goods destined for the euro area increased by 3.0 per cent, resulting solely from a 3.6 per cent rise in prices for intermediate goods.

Prices for goods destined for the non-euro area went up by 1.4 per cent in view of increases of 1.4 and 2.1 per cent in intermediate goods and consumer goods respectively. No change was registered in the capital goods sector.

Year-on-year, producer prices for total industry advanced by 1.5 per cent. During this period, producer prices for intermediate goods, energy and consumer goods increased by 2.4, 0.2 and 0.7 per cent respectively. On the other hand, prices for capital goods decreased by 0.3 per cent.

Producer prices within the domestic market moved up by 0.9 per cent. This was due to increases for intermediate goods, energy, capital and consumer goods, all of which experienced price gains of 6.1, 0.2, 0.3 and 0.9 per cent respectively.

During this period, producer prices for goods destined for the non-domestic market rose by 1.8 per cent on account of an increase in prices in both the euro and non-euro areas, of 1.6 and 3.7 per cent respectively.
