The Environmental Health Directorate has said that during joint inspections being carried out between several entities including the Health Inspectorate Services within the Directorate, the Agricultural and Fisheries Regulation Division, Customs, assisted by the Police and coordinated by the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority on consignments of food, several of such consignments are being regularly and randomly checked.
During these checks in the past weeks, another three consignments were found not being in compliance with existing regulations so much so that:
o On 30th September, one trader failed to notify the competent authorities of the consignment to be traded into Malta and hence court action will be taken;
o On 14th October, a consignment of several food and non-food items was returned to Italy due to breach in food safety regulations; and
o On 19th October, another consignment was withheld since it was not transported under appropriate temperature conditions and due to some labelling irregularities. This consignment will be destroyed.
The Health Directorate said that traders are once again being warned to comply with their food safety obligations.
