A new publication that is aiming to communicate the plethora of arts and culture activities on the island of Gozo has just been launched. If you’re resident in Gozo, then expect a copy of “In Gozo” to arrive on the doormat over the coming days.
Under no illusions, this project is being viewed as a pilot concept and the next 12 months will tell if there is any life to such an idea. As a starting point the 5 page leaflet acts as a listing for established cultural and arts activities taking place during the Christmas period, but the team involved has a firm commitment to seeking out and encouraging input from less well known artists and cultural activity organisers.
‘In Gozo’ is a non-for-profit publication which will circulate, in the first instance, 5 times a year between December 2011 to December 2012.
Guest editor, Matt Green of thisishush.com, said that he is pleased to have been invited to get on board with this project and commented, “I view this publication as having the potential to act as a cultural portal for Gozo. It will take some time to get the right mix of activities and editorial listed but I am determined that nothing will be ruled out. Quite simply there are no hard and fast rules as to what constitutes art & culture, and for me, however people are choosing to express their creativity should be celebrated. I am constantly impressed by the diversity of talent in Gozo. There are so many people that quietly practice and perfect their creative skills without any platform; be it fine artists, graphic designers and illustrators, village bands, bedroom music producers, wordsmiths, photographers and crafts people to mention a few. I genuinely hope people pick up and run with the concept by getting in touch and telling us about their story or event.”
