San Lawrenz concert held for latest phase of church project

The next part of the restoration project for the San Lawernz Parish Church, Gozo, was inaugurated recently. These were the restoration of the organ and the paintings of Guzeppi Cali in the church, five in all.
The inauguration which took the form of a concert with the Levita Laurentius Choir and wa accompanied by the newly restored organ. The choir was under the direction of Joe Formosa with the participation of Pamela Bezzina. Other musical pieces were presented by Noel Gallo, Robert Grech and Michael Farley who restored the organ.
During the evening talks were gvien about the restoration carried out on the paintings of Guzeppi Cali by the restorer, Pierre Bugeja and by Noel Gallo on the restoration of the organ.
The inauguration was attended by the Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono.
For this project, the San Lawrenz Parish together with the help and support of the Local Council has obtained funds from the European Union. These funds fall under the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), Operative Programme 1 – Cohesion Policy 2007 – 2013. The co-financing rate from the European Union Fund is 85% on the whole cost of the project, which is estimated to reach the value of €442,515.
The parish of San Lawrenz was the first parish in Malta and Gozo to have benefited with the funds for the church restoration and the first parish to have concluded these works with the help and support of the San Lawrenz Local Council. Last July the restoration of the church façade, the bell towers, the bells, the parvis and the lightning preventing system were inaugurated.
