Book on ‘The Gozo Civic Council’ by Mgr Dr Joseph Bezzina

Monsignor Dr Joseph Bezzina has published the first book about the Gozo Civic Council entitled ‘The Gozo Civic Council: The story of a Regional Government.’ The book, which was inaugurated on Friday, deals with the move towards the achievement of a Regional Council responsible for the internal affairs of the island, the Civic Council’s work since it was establilshed in April 1961 and also lists several projects and initiatives undertaken until it was abolished in 1971.

The Minister for Justice, Public Consultation, and the Family, Chris Said, present for the inauguration, thanked all those who worked in the Civic Council. The Minister said that their work was the aspirations of the people of Gozo. “Decisions taken by them and projects initiated by them served as the foundation of present day Gozo.”

The Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono, was also present and praised this initiative of Mgr Dr Joseph Bezzina and explained “how this book will continue to provide valuable input in the dissemination of knowledge and documentation on various aspects of the history of Gozo, along with other publications by the same author.”

This book was published with the help of the Parliamentary Secretariat Responsible for Local Councils and Public Consultation.
