At today’s meeting the Governing Council of the ECB decided that the interest rate on the main refinancing operations and the interest rates on the marginal lending facility and the deposit facility will remain unchanged at 1.00%, 1.75% and 0.25% respectively.

The Bank of England’s monetary policy committee have also today decided to keep interest rates at their record low of 0.5%. The UK interest rates have been at this figure since March 2009.

The Band of England also agreed to give a further boost to the UK economy with more quantitative easing of £50 billion.
