Average turnout at polling stations is 28% up to 1pm

The Local Council elections take place in Malta and Gozo today, with polling stations open from 7am this morning.
Turnout was very low first thing due to the bad weather, but improved slightly as the morning went on and by 1pm it had reached an average of 28% as the rain stopped and the wind eased slightly.
In Gozo the turnout has been Ghajnsielem 23%, Kercem 30%, Munxar 24%, Nadur 25%, Qala, 23%, San Lawrenz 32%, Xaghra 21% and Zebbug 16%.
The Polling stations will remain open until 7pm, when ballot boxes will be taken to the Gozo Sports Centre for counting. In Malta they will go to the Naxxar Counting Hall.
Eight localities in Gozo and twenty seven in Malta are holding elections today to select new local councils for a four-year term.
