As part of the St George’s Day celebrations in Gozo, the Ghaqda Armar Festa San Gorg will be staging ‘Gorgi Taghna,’ a theatrical extravaganza of drama, dance, music and lights, at the Teatru Astra in Victoria.
‘Gorgi Taghna’ is an original production about St George, illustrating different snapshots from the life of the Great Martyr of Lydda and also recounting the patronage and the recourse that the Gozitans have sought in St George throughout their turbulent history.
The main highlight of the evening is expected to be a dramatic rendition from the life of St George themed Hareg rebbieh biex jirbah, composed by the late Archpriest Mgr Salv Borg. This dramatic representation brings out the strength and determination of the daring young George who defied earthly ambitions and a career in pursuit of what he believed in.
A large stage and a hundred-strong cast, mostly made up of youths, will transform the Teatru Astra into a diamond of emotions and expressions, symbolising the loving bond between the Gozitans and their patron saint.
This venture follows the successful staging of Ghaliex Jien?, a musical which was also staged by the Ghaqda Armar Festa San Gorg at the Teatru Astra last year.
‘Gorgi Taghna’ is being staged this coming Satruday, the 14th of April at 8.00pm and booking is open at the Teatru Astra box office or by phoning on 99 021 591.
