The Gozo SPCA returned Foxie to her home at the farm this morning. Betty Berry of the Gozo SPCA, who collected Foxie yesterday afternoon said the she had travelled well but as it was late returning to Gozo she was kept in a cosy kennel in the Gozo SPCA van until this morning.
“She slept well and took her medication in her food, then I took her back to the farm early this morning.”
Betty added, “we had great difficulty getting her out of the van, but when she saw that she was at the farm she went crazy, her son Jake came and they started shrieking like banshees, then tore through the cattle yards (which are really clean), then the most magical part – she went round all the cattle – about 100 beautiful cows and greeted everyone, jumping up to lick their noses. The cows were equally happy to see her. We were all in tears, even the farmer shed a tear, it was so moving to see. He said that she always guards the cows and sees them as her family and he said that she gets very mad when they take any for sale, bless her.”
“She was so depressed and fearful, even though she had such good care whilst in the hospital, she was obviously pining for her family. What a joy to see her so blissfully happy – back with her beloved son and cows – back where she belongs.”
Betty concluded by saying, Foixe has done her bit to arouse public awareness for animal welfare in Gozo, so we have much to thank her for. She was released neutered, micro chipped and wearing a safe collar with an ID tag as well as a Scalibor collar to protect her against Leishmaniasis; these provided by Gozo This is a great result with a happy ending following good collaboration, so many, many thanks to all concerned in caring for her, to enable her to return home, safe and well.”
Betty Berry, Hilary Rogers and Mark Thorogood, who are all from the Gozo SPCA, will be appearing on Moira Delia’s TV programme NET TV tomorrow (Friday) at 18:50pm, the programme will be repeated at 15:00 on Sunday. They will be there is discuss Foxie’s case and also the future of animal welfare in Gozo.
