The Prime Minister Dr Lawrence Gonzi, held a Cabinet meeting at the Ministry of Gozo in Victoria this afternoon to which members of the media were invited to watch part.
The Prime Minister addressed the media following the meeting but would not take any questions.
He announced that a child development centre was to be built in Gozo and would be near to the Gozo General Hospital, from which services are be offered where needed for the children.
The Prime Minister also launched the second phase of the eco-Gozo vision. He said that during the first phase some of the measures made included a change in the public transport system and incentives for the installation of photovoltaic panels.
The second phase will cover the period of 2013-2015 and will be aiming for job creation in Gozo. Also included is water a purification plant for the treament of taw sewage, enabling its reuse, which the Prime Minister said, will be a first in the history of the Maltese islands.
The prime minister said up to 10% of all European Union funds are hived off for projects in Gozo, which is one of Malta’s thirteen electoral districts. “We believe this skew is essential to promote growth in Gozo. There are €71 million in projects waiting to be implemented.”
Wow! The second phase of the eco-Gozo vision has been launched. I’m sure all Gozitans will be pleased. If I remember right phase one was launched just before the last election so I’m assuming that phase two being launched just before another election is merely a coincidence. I guess Gonzi is thinking, ‘I sucked them in that time so let’s see if it works again.’ Tell you what Mr Gonzi and Ms Debono if you really want the people of Gozo to believe what you are saying put a stop to any idea of a marina development at Hondoq once and for all. You can’t talk about Eco Gozo on one hand and destroy the island with the other.
