The Law Student’s Society (GhSL) has said in a statment that “in light of the proposed changes to the law degree put forward to the Senate, it feels that the transitory period was not a satisfactory one.”

GhSL said its main aim is to safeguard the students’ interests and is aware that “such amendments will be made to conform the Bachelor of Laws degree to the Bologna Process (ensures that degrees within the EU are organised in a three-cycle structure, such as, bachelor-master-doctorate).

“However, the fact that no prior notice to students following the Bachelor of Laws course was given, GhSL considers this to be a deterrent to such students, especially if a number of such students commenced their law studies with the main aim of graduating and thus practising as notaries right after fourth year.”

“This is certainly not a just way to bring about such changes, especially without giving adequate notice to students who will be affected by such decisions. Thus, GhSL is of the opinion that sufficient notice should have been given to students who shall be affected by this change,” the Society said.

GhSL concluded by saying that it also recommends that such changes start to apply to Bachelor of Laws students commencing their studies in this coming scholastic year (2012).
