Labour leader, Joseph Muscat held a session of the Labour Party Congress in Sannat this morning.
Dr Muscatt said Labour policy would focus on creating jobs in Gozo for the Gozitans. Developing the toursim sector is the key to generate wealth and create jobs in Gozo, with the island being seen as a distinct destination.
The Labour leader said that through this congress the people had shown that they wanted their voices heard, allowing them to contribute to the decision-making process. He said that Gozitans were the experts on the island’s issues. It was encouraging that what Gozitans were saying, especially businessmen and entrepreneurs, were similar views to the Labour Party’s proposals.
Gozo was not viewed as a burden, to be carrried by the country, Dr Muscat said, the aim is to create a Gozo which would be an important engine for the development of the country, with less bureaucracy and more accountability which will lead to more jobs for the people.
At the end of the Labour leader’s speech, Congress members unanimously approved the manifesto guideline by a show of hands. A good representative cross- section of Members from the Gozitan community were present.
