GOZO LIVE – performance writers forum, is inviting writers in all genres to attend an inaugural meeting at St.John’s Hall at the Cittadella Centre for Culture & Arts next Friday, the 12th of October 2012 at 7.00pm.
Writers in all disciplines are invited to come along to an informal meeting to provide an input into the aims and development of this Forum.
It is hoped to attract writers of short stories, prose and even ad-lib story tellers and raconteurs. Play and script writers will be encouraged to perform their work-in-progress to a live audience. Poets and folk-song writers/musicians – all will be welcomed to meet regularly to perform and discuss their art. The invitation is not limited to established writers, but is open to potential scribes, particularly newly emerging writers.
It is initially planned to arrange regular meetings at the Cittadella Centre for Culture & Arts. Young writers are especially welcome – it can be hoped that the performance environment will encourage teenage talent to develop and flourish.
Malta and Gozo are steeped in the performing arts. Many internationally renowned writers and poets have hailed from these islands. It is a proud tradition that GOZO LIVE seeks to sustain and develop, whilst at the same time providing a social opportunity for literary artists to meet and perform among friends and appreciative visitors.
GOZO LIVE welcomes writers from other places to connect with Gozitan writers in a spirit of friendship and cooperation.
Members will be encouraged to perform in public places, eg. parks, gardens and plazas, together with schools and cultural events.
The primary aim of GOZO LIVE is to maintain the proud tradition of creative writing in Gozo and to enhance the Island’s reputation as a place of cultural diversity and excellence.
This project is building on the initiative of Alan Lloyd, a Gozitan resident, author and poet with the full support of the Gozo Culture Office in the Ministry for Gozo.
