MEPA has this evening responded to a statement issued by the Fondazzjoni Bethlehem f’Ghajnsielem “whereby they state that the necessary permits for the proposed development of a rural recreational park in Ghajnsielem which will also incorporate a number of permanent structures which can eventually be used for the annual traditional live crib have not yet been issued by MEPA.”
The Authority said that it “would like to clarify that in September 2011, it had informed the applicant (Ghajnsielem local council) that for the proposal to be considered further, fresh plans and additional information (including environmental studies) need to be re-submitted to the Authority with all the permanent structures proposed in the rural recreational park application shifted to the area which falls with the development boundaries.
“The proposed site for the rural recreational park is predominately situated outside development boundaries with a portion having been designated as an Area of Ecological Interest in the Gozo and Comino Local Plan.”
“The latest information required by the Authority to complete the assessment of the application were submitted by the applicant in September 2012, while the final Project Description Statement for the EIA screening to be concluded was submitted on the 23rd October 2012,” MEPA concluded.
