This year’s Grand Christmas Concert ‘Il-Kuncert tal-Milied’ with Chorus Urbanus, marks its 15th consecutive year. The concert which is taking place at St George’s Basilica, sees the Chorus Urbanus performing the Coronation Mass by W.A. Mozart, with the participation of soloists Yvonne Galea (soprano), Claire Massa (Mezzo-Soprano), Charles Vincenti (tenor), Noel Galea (bass) together with a wholesome Chorus Urbanus and the Urbanus Festive Orchestra under the direction of Dr John Galea.
The evening’s programme also includes a selection of carols with solo numbers by Ruth Portelli (soprano), Hilda Grima (soprano) and Mario Portelli (tenor). Mr Charles Buttigieg, recipient of the 2012 edition of The President’s Award for Creativity, will feature in the all-time favourite White Christmas.
The choir said that the “highlight of this year’s concert will be Adolphe Adam’s carol, O Holy Night, with the participation of soprano Yvonne Galea and tenor Charles Vincenti to a magnificently sonorous setting by John Galea.”
The evening will conclude “with an equally resplendent Adeste Fideles” introduced by the quartet of soloists and the choir.
During the concert, which takes place this Sunday, the 16th of December, a collection in aid of Arka Foundation will be held.
Patrons are asked to be seated by 7.45pm.
