Fr. John Sultana from Xaghra has sent in this impressive photograph of the huge 8.5 meter high Eco Christmas Tree which is currently on display in Saint Anthony Square, Xaghra, Gozo.

The tree has been carefully constructed using more than 6000 plastic bottles, which were carefully put together by “Teenspirit” a group of teenagers from the Saint Anthony Abbot Church in Xaghra,.

Visitors viewing this impressive tree can also admire two large cribs, an open air crib and an exhibition of Napolitan cribs, including some that have been constructed using recycled materials.

Well done to the kids from Saint Anthony Abbot Church. This looks really good. The important thing now is to ensure that when it is taken apart again all the bottles go for recycling and not into a landfill site.

Greenpak Malta has offered to recycle all plastic collected and used for the initiative and offered a donation of 100 euro for the project. On behalf of TeenSpirit i would like to thank Greenpak snd other entities for thier help and sponsorship. Fr. John Sultana

Good idea about re using the Christmas tree in the future. Our main problem is where to store such a big structure. Any suggestion?

Good idea in Gozo, better than through it in the fields.
If you would build a tree like this in Germany,it wouldn’t last for long, because you get 25 cents bottle deposit for each empty plastic bottle.
