“A friend in Germany is planning to bring a group of friends to Gozo from mid-October to mid-November. They will be staying a total of four weeks.
He has been trying to book a flight from Munich to Malta and back to Munich via the Air Malta site for several days now and has been unsuccessful. The site comes up with the message that there are no flights available on the dates requested, although he ticked the flexible date icon.
He has been booking flights via the Air Malta site for several years so is not unfamiliar with the procedure. In desperation he contacted me to see if I could help from this side.
I have also just tried unsuccessfully to to book online for him so I called the call centre. The delightful lady was also unable to obtain flights for November. She suggested that they might not have been downloaded yet and no, she couldn’t find out for sure, neither could she give me a number to phone for find out further details.
This is certainly no way to encourage tourists to visit Malta and Gozo.
I can understand that flights for 2014 may not be available yet, but November is only a few months away! If flights have not yet been downloaded, then surely an appropriate message to that effect could be displayed.
Most people need to plan their holidays in advance and in this case Air Malta is certainly not offering a service. No wonder they are doing so badly!”

Thanks, Lesley, for bringing this situation to public notice.I might add that out of our group of 16 friends whom I am supposed to give a first impression on Malta/Gozo, six have already booked their flights with alternate carriers,most probably at higher than necessary prices,with annoying stopovers etc.I hope the rest will be patient enough untill
the rumour comes true that Ryan Air flies directly from Nuremberg to Luqa.

The site is now working – apparently – but as Peter says, half the group have already booked with other carriers. Things like this simply shouldn’t happen, and there is NO excuse for bad management. It should not take letters to the press to make a company aware of its shortcomings!
I have also tried to book flights with Air Malta for June 2013 and received the following email from Air Malta:-
Air Malta is to re-start operations from Cardiff for summer 2013 as follows:
Tuesdays 07May to 29Oct’13 MLA/CWL/MLA MLA 0530z-0855z CWL 0945z-1300z MLA
We might also have a flight on:-
Fridays 03May to 25Oct’13 MLA/CWL/MLA MLA 1850z-2215z CWL 2255z-0205z MLA
All above times in GMT still subject to confirmation.
At the moment the flights are not available to book direct via our website and these should be in the system by the end of January 2013.
If you like you can book flights from one of our tour operators, ie Thomas Cook, Thomson, Cosmos etc.

Suffice to say that it was not possible the last time I looked to book UK to Gatwick with Easy Jet – – for October. The situation may well have atered by now, I didnt take another look yet.
