A new government will be strengthening the services given through the Klabb 3 – 16 initiative for those families with children over 3 years of age.

The above statement was made by the PL Leader Joseph Muscat following a visit at Mickey’s Child Educare Centre at Bulebel Industrial Estate.

The PL Leader affirmed, “Through the boosting of the Scheme Klabb3 – 16, we will be empowering more women to enter the labour market, whilst addressing the pension problem.”

Joseph Muscat spoke further about family-friendly measures. In this context, schemes like flexitime, job sharing, reduced hours and teleworking will also be enhanced. The PL Leader said “that Government should lead by example, thus the implementation of these measures should be applied properly, throughout all Government Departments and sections, in order to promote more flexibility.”

Joseph Muscat also spoke about the proposal of free child-care services and stated that “through this proposal there will be 3,000 new places for children which will subsequently generate 500 new jobs.” The PL Leader stressed the fact that through this proposal the number of women joining the labour market will increase by a further 2,500 to add with the 9,600 already anticipated.

Joseph Muscat concluded that the free child-care services proposal will be implemented through collaboration with the private sector, through Public Private Partnerships.
