MUT officials had what was described as a very cordial meeting with Minister Dolores Cristina at the MUT Headquarters on Friday, following the Minister’s meeting with MUT Council members. John Bencini MUT President appealed to the Minister to “keep the door wide open” as the MCAST authorities would not budge an inch on those main issues which were causing the impasse.

The Minister pointed out that she would do her utmost to solve this impasse but felt she could not continue negotiations unless the Union directives are withdrawn. The MUT is waiting for further developments and a meeting with the MUT MCAST representatives is scheduled for Monday or Tuesday.

The MUT President also pointed out that the Revised Salaries have not yet been passed on to the MUT from the Central Bargaining Unit. The Minister replied that these will only be passed on to the MUT when the Union accepts the Agreement in toto. Mr. John Bencini replied that the MUT will only consider the whole package including the financial aspect.

The Minister expressed her disappointment at seeing students being caught in the crossfire. The MUT reiterated that the Union was not denying students from attending lectures and that lessons were held regularly. It was up to the students who happen to be the minority who should attend the lectures instead of roaming about the campus.
