The Maltese government is continuing in its efforts to secure the release of George Scerri, the Maltese oil worker who was kidnapped in Nigeria on Friday.
Messages of solidarity with Mr Scerri’s family have poured in from official organisations and the Maltese community all around the world. Messages of solidarity have also been issued by the Malta labour Party and the Nationalist Party.
The Foreign Ministry has said that it has established contacts with Mr Scerri’s family and is seeking the help and expertise of both Italy and Britain to help secure Mr Scerri’s release.
Mr Scerri was kidnapped by unknown gunmen together with another worker, a Pakistani, as they were driving towards an oil rig in Omoku. Both men work for the Lonestar Drilling company.
