The Ministry for Resources and Rural Affairs has announced the setting up of a committee with the responsibility of formulating a plan to curb the country’s greenhouse gas emissions.

The committee will be given the task of proposing measures to help the country meet its targets and obligations on climate change. These obligations include the reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 20% and the generation of at least 10% of the country’s energy from alternative sources by the year 2020.

The committee is to be chaired by David Spiteri Gingell, and will comprise representatives from a wide range of entities and sectors which will have an important role to play if the country is to meet its targets and obligations. These will include, Ing. Christopher Ciantar, Martin Seychell, Ing. Godwin Sant, Ing. Joe Cilia, Ing. Peter Grima, Dr Simone Borg, Ing. Joseph Restall and Dr Paul Pace.

Two German experts will be also offering their technical assistance to the committee.
