Homes across Gozo will shortly begin receiving water saving kits aimed at a more sustainable use of water, as well as the conservation of groundwater. This initiative is part of the project Sustainable Domestic Water Use in Mediterranean Regions (SWMED) which is co-financed by the European Union under the ENPI CBC MED programme. The Ministry for Gozo is one of the partners in this project as part of the eco-Gozo Action Plan.
Approximately 30,000 devices will be distributed, which will be contained in twelve thousand kits. These can be used in various rooms including the kitchen and bathroom. Each location will be receiving different devices including a shower head, shower switch, shower timer, kitchen swivel aerator, areator, ‘flushless’ bag and a bag to measure the flow of water.
Each family on Gozo will be receiving a voucher entitling them to a free water-saving kit and eventually authorised personnel will be distributing these kits to the door in exchange for the voucher.
As part of this project, the Malta Resources Authority and the Ministry for Gozo will be analyzing the reduction in water consumption after the distribution of these kits, with the intention that those kits that are the most effective are then implemented on a national basis and in a range of Mediterranean regions.
The Minister for Gozo,. Giovanna Debono said that this is not the only project in Gozo related to the conservation and more sustainable use of water. “Projects and initiatives during this legislature included the distribution of a water aerator every home in Gozo, cleaning of several valleys and water basins that led to an increase of 43 million litres in rainwater storage, an information campaign sent to every home in Gozo on reducing the consumption of energy and water, among others, including the Coca Cola Foundation’s investment in the eco-Gozo project.”
The Ministry is one of seven partners in the project SWMED and was allocated funding of more than € 120,000 to carry out this project.
If the Minister of Gozo want to save WATER she should protect Ghajn Qasab Valley which is located at her home town .. Nadur.. This Eco Gozo Minister is living 1600 thousands gallons of Spring fresh water being rough by a Cemetery which in the future deterioration from corpse will spies with water to the farmers reservoirs and wells with detriment to the Agriculture and Environment.

Nadur Cemetry is ruining the fresh water of Ghajn Qasab farmers .That Cemetry should have never been built there .
If Nadur Cemetry is contaminating the fresh water of Ghajn Qasab farmers the SANITARY DEPARTMENT should take steps and check if the fruits and vegetables are contaminated !!!

That Cemetery should have never been built there on an aquifire because they were told that it will create problems but NO ONE LISTENED

I agree with you that Cemetery should have never been built there.
But now it is built so there is the consumers health in the middle so my interest as a consumer is if those fruits and vegetables are contaminated !!!

So wath do you mean that if fruits and vegetables are contaminated should be on sale in the market anyway ?????
How sad it is to read about this catastrophe on water streams when water is precis as white gold in the Maltese Islands,. and more sad to know that the farmers has been telling the Nadur church and the Gozo Curia for about 10 years to stop this project because there is a big aquifer where the cemetery is planed.
Because the cemetery is not yet completed and ‘occupied’ (thank God! – God are you listening?) the fruit and vegetables grown in the valley are not yet contaminated with the poisonous chemicals used to embalm bodies. However, the quality and quantity of the water seeping down to the valley has already been compromised due to the fact that the natural seepage/springs draining into the aquifer have been irreparably damaged by the construction work carried out. So much for the church looking after its own. The whole situation is disgusting and the church has simply ignored all the advice from highly qualified environmentalists and pleas from the local farmers who actually work and try to earn a living off the land below the cemetery. It seems to me that all the church is interested in is selling the burial plots for lots of money!
Lets face it the lack of water and the heavy cost to creating it is a most national issue, give us strategy and halt illegal ground water extraction to protect the aquifers because AQUIFERS are GOD creation . The disastrous result in the countryside of Ghajn Qasab limits of Ramla Bay is there for all to see
Where are the two Nadur Ministers too let such things happen under their eyes !!! or they are afraid of loosing votes ? shame on them and the Gozo church for not safeguarding this potable water . The church always make mistake to stay on top , no wander why they left their place from the Catholic church
