Thursday is the last day for collecting voting documentsThe Electoral Commission has said that Thursday, the 7th of March, 2013, is the last day in which voting documents may be collected from the Electoral Office, Evans Building, St. Elmo Square, Valletta, and from the Identity Cards Office, 28A, St. Francis Square, Victoria, Gozo, for voters registered in Gozo.

Office hours for Thursday will be from 8.00am to 2.00pm and from 3.00pm till midnight. Any person collecting the voting document must call personally at the Electoral Commission’s Office to collect it from the Electoral Commissioners.

These voters have to present their identity card. No other document will suffice for this purpose. However, for EU voters who are not Maltese, for Local Council elections, the Residence Document shall be accepted.

The Electoral Commission is providing facilities to sick persons who are unable to go out of a private car when calling at the Electoral Office so that a Commissioner delivers the document to them.

The Electoral Commission requests the co-operation of the public as follows:

a. Voters who are unable to walk should be brought to the Electoral Office, Evans Building, Valletta by a private car. The Electoral Commission recommends that in such cases there should be another person accompanying the driver and the voter so that the accompanying persons could present the voter’s I.D. Card to one of the Commissioners and indicate to him the place where the voter in the parked car is.

b. The same service applies to voters in Gozo who are unable to go out of a private car near the Identity Cards Office, 28A, St. Francis Square, Victoria, Gozo.

c. In cases where elderly and sick persons are unable to be brought by a private car to collect their document, the Commission shall make an effort to deliver the document at their residence. For this purpose, the Electoral Commission requests that the voters themselves or a relative of these voters should call or contact the Electoral Office on 25583127/8 to furnish the necessary details.

The Electoral Commission requests the co-operation of the public to avail themselves of this service only in cases of justified necessity.

The Electoral Commission also reminds all those persons collecting their voting document that their voting document may only be collected on a personal basis and on the presentation of the voter’s identity card. However, for EU voters who are not Maltese, for Local Council elections, the Residence Document shall be accepted.

Without the voting document, no one would be allowed to vote on polling day.
