The Government has appointed Ms Dolores Cristina as Acting President of Malta while the President of Malta Dr George Abela is on a visit to the Vatican City for the inauguration Mass of Pope Francis.

President Abela will be in Rome between Monday, the 18th of March and Wednesday, the 20th of March 2013.

The statement said that The appointment of Ms Cristina as Acting President was under the authority of the Prime Minister following consultation with the Leader of the Opposition.
