The Gozo Tourism Association has said that it believes that the specific measures announced during yesterday’s budget speech, are all positive measures towards an important and striving tourism industry on Gozo.

The Association added that it welcomes Government plans for Gozo, to start the process for the development of a yacht marina, a cruise liner terminal, and a new casino licence earmarked for the Gozitan Island. These developments will be opening up new markets, whilst enhancing and strengthening other fledgling sectors of the tourism industry on Gozo.

This budget is also outlining other proposals which include the revision of licences related to the Gozitan self catering units, and a review of incentive guidelines for hoteliers which includes incentives for 3 star hotels. Furthermore, the promotion of the Gozitan touristic product is aimed to benefit more through innovative and technological means.

Another measure in this budget includes the sum of €200,000 which is being allocated for a scheme intended to offer reduced rates by Gozo Channel during the winter months to entice domestic tourism.

This budget apart from acknowledging several proposals put forward by the Gozo Tourism Association, is not only recognising Gozo’s needs, but addressing them with specific measures, the Association said.

Finally the Gozo Tourism Association said that, whilst representing the Gozitan tourism sector it will be collaborating with Government, to nurture and optimize on the touristic potential of the Island of Gozo.
