Since the official opening, Xrobb l-Ghagin Nature Park and Sustaianable Development Centre has been visited by around 5000 students and 10000 visitors. The park is used both for enjoyment and relaxation as well as field work and research.

Set in the South East of Malta, on the peninsula of Xrobb -Ghagin the park has scenic views of the sea where one can also enjoy the open air and rich wildlife. The Centre which was renovated two years with the support of EEA and local government, was once the building used by Deutsche Welle, a german radio station transmitter , which eventually closed down in 1996.

Nowadays the Centre and Park have been transformed into a sustainable development building using green energy from solar panels, photovoltaic panels and windturbines. The centre, whose design and even colour were kept as the original has its own original energy saving designs, including a waste recycling plant. None is wasted at Xrobb l-Ghagin, recycled water is used to water the trees, rain water is use for washing clothes and wind and sunlight and wind are used for electricity and lighting.

The park is opens daily between 09:00 and 17:00 with extended hours on weekends and public holidays during summer time.

This coming Sunday, the 28th of April the park and centre will be open for the public and activities will be carried out by Nature Trust volunteers.

The event will take place between 10:00 and 16:00 and includes a car wash, coffee shop, various stands, films, games, talks and walks and plenty of activities for children.

The event is free of charge however donations are greatly appreciated. Nature Trust is raising funds to refurbish the next part of the building under phase II of the project which will house turtles and other local wildlife that undergo rehabilitation.
