The La Stella Philharmonic Society of Victoria, Gozo, will be holding an exhibition at its cultural complex, the Teatru Astra, between Friday, the 10th and Sunday, the 12th of May, coinciding with the annual event Lejlet Lapsi-Notte Gozitana.
‘Is-Socjeta’ Filarmonika La Stella u l-pilastri li jsawwruha: il-Banda, il-Festa u t-Teatru.’
It is on these three pillars that the work the La Stella Philharmonic Society is based and it is because of these pillars that this cultural and social institution is highly active all year round.
Artefacts illustrating La Stella’s contribution in the aforementioned areas will be exhibited to the public in a display of musical, artistic and historical works, in the foyer of the Teatru Astra during the three days of Lejlet Lapsi – Notte Gozitana, from Friday, the 10th to Sunday, the 12th of May 2013.
The exhibition will enable viewers to view works associated with the La Stella Philharmonic Band, the feast of St George celebrated in Victoria and the Teatru Astra. The Society said that “visitors to the exhibition will be able to enjoy, in a more tangible manner, the work of Society’s many bandsmen, members, supporters and admirers who, through their hard work and monetary donations, transformed the La Stella Philharmonic Society into a singular benefactor of high culture in Gozo.”
Merhba f’darna! – Open Weekend at the Teatru Astra
During the same weekend the general public will also have the opportunity to visit the the Teatru Astra, the place which hosted celebrated artists such as Raffaella Carra, the Goggi Sisters, the Montparnasse Ballet Troupe, Nek, the Ballet Classique de Paris and more recently, Amadeo Minghi.
Visitors to this cultural complex during the Lejlet Lapsi – Notte Gozitana will have the opportunity to appreciate the theatre in all its glory, as well as view the costumes worn by the world renowned Maltese tenor Joseph Calleja, who kick-started his operatic career at the Astra Theatre in 1997 and other great singers such as Ghena Dimitrova, Giuseppe Giacomini, Pamela Kucenic, Aldo Protti, Dimitra Theodossiou and Daniela Dessì.
