Fulgens Corona – The Story of a Crown, is a commemorative Exhibition on the 40th anniversary of the coronation of the statue of the Nativity of our Lady, in Xaghra, Gozo. 1973-2013.

The Xaghra (Gozo) Parish is commemorating the 40th anniversary of the solemn coronation of the statue of the Nativity of Our Lady. This event took place on the 2nd of September 1973 and the statue was crowned by the late Bishop of Gozo Mgr. Nikol Cauchi, accompanied by special celebrations.

To commemorate this anniversary, a multimedia exhibition honouring this historic event is being organised. The exhibition will be open between Saturday, the 31st of August and Sunday, the 8th of September 2013.

The exhibition will consist of various sections, the first of which will include panels with general information about the significance of the coronation in the context of the Church’s teachings. It will also feature several items of historical interest, including the winning design by Mr Joseph Sagona selected in a competition, correspondence which ensued with distinct personalities, the Episcopal Decree authorising this coronation, together with the velvet cushion on which the crown was carried for the occasion by the Xaghra born Chief Judge Emeritus Prof. J.J. Cremona.

Also on display will be several photographic artefacts which commemorate all the events that were organised at that time, together with newspaper cuttings relevant to those events.

The central section will house the main exhibit, namely the actual golden crown enriched with precious stones, that generally adorns the statue’s head. The general public will have the unique opportunity to inspect this artefact for the first two days of the exhibition, the 31st August and the 1st of September. After that, the crown will be placed on the statue’s head for the remaining festivity days. In order to produce this crown, the Xaghra community of 40 years ago, had generously donated their gold and precious stones.

In the final section visitors will be able to follow a visual documentary of the historic ceremony being commemorated.

The exhibition is being held at the Vocations Centre and will be open as follows:

Saturday 31st August 2013: 6.30pm – 10.00pm.

Sunday 1st September 2013: 8.00am – 10.00pm.

Monday 2nd September 2013: 10.00am – 12.00pm and 6.00pm – 9.00pm.

Tuesday 3rd to Thursday 5th September: 6.00pm. – 9.00pm.

Friday 6th September 2013: 6.00pm – 10.00pm.

Saturday 7th and 8th September 2013: 10.00am – 12.00pm and 6.00pm – 10.00pm.
