The Gozo Tourism Association in a statement this afternoon, referred to the recent reports in local media relating to an incident in farmhouse accommodation bookings on Gozo.
The Gozo Tourism Association said that it “would like to remind all prospective clients to ensure that all their accommodation dealings are done through and with, a reputable company and or individual.”
“Furthermore,” it said, “before paying any deposits prior to their arrival date they are to check that the payment is being done to the rightful owner or representative and that the relevant receipt is issued immediately upon the payment.”
Earlier this week, local company, Gozo Farmhouse Rentals warned of a woman that is posing as their representative, who, the company said, is contacting people through its facebook page and other clients.
The company said that the woman, who calls herself Annabelle, from Gozo, asks people for deposits, issues a false receipt and then is never seen by the client again. “Some people have already had this experience happen to them.”
