What makes joining us a unique experience? Asks Xaghra Scout GroupThe Xaghra Scout Group said that “there are people who think that scouting is all about wearing the uniform, marching and doing knots. That is quite a misconception of what we, at the Xaghra Scout Group do”What makes joining us a unique experience? Asks Xaghra Scout GroupIn May 2008 Xaghra Scout Group was reactivated and that was the start of an amazing journey. The group is made up of 3 sections: the beaver colony, the cub pack and the scout troop between the ages of 5 and 15 and made up of both male and female.

“Meetings are held every Saturday in Xaghra with each section having its specific time. But what makes the children want to join this group? Each section has a programme to follow, a programme which is not only educational and provide the skills needed in everyday life but also fun.,” the Scout Group said.

“However, the most loved activities by all sections together with the leaders are hiking and camping. And what about those who are over 16? Youths can join the group and act as helpers and later leaders. Most of the leaders are between the ages of 18 and 25 and still enrolled in full time education.

“Being a member of Xaghra Scout Group will enhance your time management and responsibility skills and will also help you acquire certain skills which will not be found elsewhere. Apart from that, you become a member of a young and dynamic team, a team that even though working hard for the good of the community, still finds time to have fun and organise outings where they can meet and socialise away from the scouting environment,” the Scout Group said.

It added that “we also meet many international people through events which we participate in. An event which Xaghra Scout Group organised was the E-S.C.OUT, a youth exchange for scouts from our group with scouts from Turkey, Portugal and Ireland. Apart from that, members of the group also participated in international activities such as Scout Art in Spain, the Euro-Mini-Jam in Iceland, the World Scout Jamboree in Sweden, Roverway in Finland and even the International Youth Gathering for Cultural Exchange in Oman, each one a unique experience!”

“As you can all see, being a leader or a helper is not what some people have the impression of being. There are moments which you have to work hard and be on the alert for what is happening during meetings but there are more moments where you can enjoy yourself while relaxing with friends you have made in scouts,” the Scout Group pointed out that “the satisfaction of being a leader comes when you see the members from your respective section achieving what they have been working hard for and succeeding in their lives.”
