The Feast of Christ the King is to be commemorated this coming Sunday, the 24th of November with an open air celebration of faith at St Augustine Square, Victoria, stating at 4.30pm.
The Gozitan Diocese will be holding a manifestation of faith and the message will be delivered by H.L. Mons. Mario Grech, Bishop of Gozo.
The festival is celebrated in the Roman Catholic church in honour of Jesus Christ as lord over all creation. It is a moveable feast and is celebrated on the final Sunday of the liturgical year, which is the last Sunday before Advent starts.
It is essentially a magnification of the Feast of the Ascension, which intended to proclaim Christ’s royalty over individuals, families, society, governments, and nations.
The festival was established by Pope Pius XI in 1925. It was originally celebrated on the last Sunday in October, but in the revised liturgical calendar promulgated by Pope Paul VI in 1969 it was moved to the last Sunday of Ordinary Time.
