For the eighth consecutive year, the ‘Ghaqda ‘Il-Milied Fix-Xaghra’ (Society Christmas in Xaghra) is again offering the unique opportunity to visit the twenty seven artistic cribs, static, mechanical and a Live Crib and all of the many Christmas exhibitions taking place in Xaghra, Gozo.
This one time cultural tour takes visitors by mini bus round the town and is an occasion not to be missed.
The tour is being held on Saturday, the 28th of December 2013. An experienced guide will accompany the group with a running commentary in English and Maltese.
It will visit the Xaghra Basilica, beautifully decorated for Christmas, including an artistic bambino made in Lecce Italy with the technique of cartapesta leccese and five artistic Nativity cribs.
Highlights of the tour will be a representation of the Nativity with a Live Crib held in a farmhouse and an exhibition of crafts all with a touch of Christmas.
A short break during the tour will include the traditional home brewed black coffee (tat-tacci) with the option of distilled orange blossom water and village biskuttini all of which are particular Xaghra brands.
Transport by mini bus will leave from near the exit to Ggantija Temples (parking area) at 4.30pm. For those coming over from Malta a minibus will pick them up from Mgarr Terminal in Gozo on arrival of the 3.45pm ferry and after the tour finishes they will be taken back to the terminal in time to catch the 8.45pm ferry back to Malta.
A fully illustrated colour A5 booklet will be given to all the participants. Entrance to all places being visited is free but a small contribution of €4.00 to cover transport, guide services and snacks is kindly requested.
