The Government, through the Malta Information Technology Agency (MITA) and Microsoft Malta, has announced a new offer for students – Student Advantage – as part of its ongoing commitment towards education. “This will mean 40,000 Maltese students will enjoy free Microsoft Office software.”

The offer was launched this morning by the Prime Minister, Dr. Joseph Muscat, the Minister for Education and Employment Evarist Bartolo and Parliamentary Secretary for Competitiveness and Economic Growth Dr Edward Zammit Lewis were also present..

Dr. Muscat said that the investment, with a total investment of €4 million and benefitting around 40,000 children, will allow students to download the Microsoft Office software through a simple registration process and with no need to queue, as in past years. The savings for each student are estimated at around €100. The software will be available to use in up to five devices.

The Prime Minister highlighted the importance for education to embrace the digital reality and said that a new digital economy strategy is currently being finalised.

MITA Chairman Tony Sultana said that the latest Microsoft software will be provided at no cost following negotiations between MITA and Microsoft, providing local students with the latest Microsoft software that will further enhance their studies.

All students attending state schools and MCAST will be receiving an email in their academic mailbox with information and a unique verification code. Students are then to access the site www.mita.gov.mt/studentadvantage and enter their unique verification code.

Throughout February 2014, Microsoft Malta will be e-mailing students with more information on how to start using their Student Advantage software.

Microsoft Office 365 Education is helping students worldwide to get the most out of their education while gaining valuable skills which will assist them to enter the future workforce. A recent study by IDC shows that nearly 98% of students using productivity software currently use Office.
